Job Summary:

The Senior Business Development Specialist (SBDS) is focused on sourcing, pursuing and closing business in the Federal government marketplace. This position is predicated both on developing and nurturing relationships in prospective and current federal agencies and the sourcing and pursuit of opportunities within those accounts. The position works together with the Operations Team to ensure the pursuit and estimating of work is profitable and sellable as well as performed according to client requirements.



  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or five to ten years related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in GIS industry required
  • Experience successfully selling GIS services to Federal government agencies


Essential Duties Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Source and nurture relationships with new federal agencies
  • Nurture relationships with those federal agencies where Continental Mapping is already established
  • Source, pursue and close sales opportunities. This includes leading Capture on master contracts/IDIQ pursuits as well as scoping and closing task orders within, or independent of, IDIQs
  • Facilitate and contribute to the production of compelling and high-quality proposals including SF330 responses, GSA pursuits, or short letter estimates for individual task orders
  • Work closely with the proposal team in the production of those proposals
  • Develop and nurture B2B relationships to support teaming
  • Attend and/or present at trade shows, client meetings or other public venues
  • Updating CRM opportunities, contacts and account information on a weekly basis
  • Work closely with the Corporate Marketing Team to create campaigns and collateral to support business development efforts


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Federal agencies Continental Mapping does and can support with its surveying and mapping services and an awareness of emerging requirements and how Continental Mapping can support them
    • Sales methodology for sourcing opportunities, performing capture, and closing business
    • Strong writing and communication skills to facilitate capture and proposal production
    • Ability to think strategically about forming partnerships to win work
  • Experience with CRM package to track all aspects of sales pursuit
  • Comfort level engaging with new people
  • Creating and making presentations
  • Experience closing business deals
