The Geospatial Engineer will work within a government/contractor team, applying their knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to configure solutions, implement workflows, create and provision data content, test enhancements, and provide user support to ESRI customers.  The Geospatial Engineer role may require desk-side support to Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) mission analysts, as well as participation in larger project teams providing support in the conception, construction, implementation, and testing of GIS databases, applications, and production systems.

The Geospatial Engineer will work at NGA facilities in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO, with occasional travel to ESRI facilities in Vienna, VA or St. Charles, MO.

This position is contingent upon client approval, and successful cross-over of existing TS/SCI clearance.

  • Assist in the design and development of data automation, data migration, and database development projects within the IC and DoD
  • Perform basic and advanced processing tasks using ArcGIS and other ESRI products and extensions
  • Build databases or data stores from imagery and cartographic/digital sources, and support the development of GIS database designs.
  • Review, interpret, and utilize established production processes
  • Perform mapping and web mapping production tasks
  • Write geoprocessing Python and SQL scripts
  • Coordinate workflow with project/technical managers
  • Support ESRI customers' use of the ArcGIS platform and address user requests

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Proficiency with the ESRI product line, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and related desktop extensions
  • Experience with automated cartography, computer science, programming/scripting, and spatial analysis
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to think quickly.



  • Background in software support or technical customer service with direct end user contact
  • Experience with data conversion/migration
  • Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, or Windows operating systems, Python scripting, and SQL.
  • Experience with NGA databases, systems, imagery, and digital mapping data, products, and services


Experience and Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, GEOINT, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience using GIS-related technology in a professional setting


License and/or Certifications:

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI Eligibility (TS/SCI)

  • Does not directly supervise employees; may be on team(s) providing guidance & instruction to others
