The Software Developer Imagery will work within a government/contractor team and other developers to develop imagery-focused applications and solutions leveraging the ESRI platform.  The Software Developer Imagery will develop applications using various cutting-edge technologies following an Agile process.  Working within Agile-based processes, they will develop and test imagery-focused applications as dictated by project requirements.

The Software Developer - Imagery will work at NGA facilities in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO, with occasional travel to ESRI facilities in Vienna, VA or St. Charles, MO.

This position is contingent upon client approval, and successful cross-over of existing TS/SCI clearance.

 Build software solutions based on ESRI's Imagery Platform to develop Geospatial and Imagery Analyst workflows

  • Design and build software components that seamlessly run on-premise and on cloud platforms
  • Work collaboratively with other team members within an Agile software development process
  • Apply good software design and development practices in daily activities
  • Estimate the duration and level of effort of development tasks
  • Write comprehensive technical design specification and support documentation
  • Participate in technical spike efforts, bringing new and innovative ideas to future software versions

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Proficiency with the ESRI product line including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Image Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Runtime
  • Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, or Windows operating systems
  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to technical peers or non-technical project managers and customers
  • Excellent problem solving, design, development, and debugging skills
  • Experience using Agile software development methodologies (Scrum)
  • Knowledge and practice of test-driven development methodology



  • Experience developing and deploying software in the IC or DoD
  • Experience with C, C++, or C#
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, or JSON
  • Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS raster concepts (mosaic datasets and image services)
  • Experience with NITF and TFRD formatted imagery and metadata
  • Experience with NGA databases, systems, imagery, and digital mapping data, products, and services


Experience and Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, GEOINT, cartography, computer science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience using GIS and Imagery-related technology


  • Master's degree in a related field


License and/or Certifications:

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI Eligibility (TS/SCI)


Supervision Exercised:

  • Does not directly supervise employees; may be on team(s) providing guidance & instruction to others
